Holiday Gift Ideas

  1. Candles:

Jo Malone of London never fails to impress with their unique collection of scents. Our personal favourites include Vanilla&Anise: a beautiful blend of oaky vanilla and star anise; a spicy and sweet scent to uplift any atmosphere (£42 for 200g); and Pomegranate Noir Luxury: a seductive combination of warm amber, sweet lily and fruity pomegranate, which brings a sultry ambiance to all spaces (£280 for 2.5kg).

Another winner for the Holidays is St Eval Candle Company, which offer some wonderfully fragrant candles. An excellent choice for a gift is Embers: a true aroma of log fires (£15.95 for 750g); or the crispy fresh, yet floral and sweet scent of Apple&Elderflower: a refreshing scent for winter (£9 for 300g).

  1. Books

Nothing is better than curling up indoors with a mug of tea in one hand and a book in the other during winter.

Holiday perfects include beautiful editions of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and The Gift of Magi by O. Henry, but there are plenty of other great books that make great gifts. Malgudi Days is a collection of stories by R K Narayan and a superb gift this winter, especially for any family member or friend who loves culture and travel. This book captures the spirit of India beautifully (various).

A novel to be released in October is Spinning Starlight by R C Lewis. This is a moving and imaginative adaptation of Hans Christian Andersan’s Wild Swans that will be welcomed by all fiction lovers in winter. Nothing is more magical in the holidays than a fairytale! (Price to be confirmed)

  1. Art

is an outstanding painter, with an eye for fine art and a hand to match; his pieces are unique, evocative and quiet. A great gift for an art fanatic this Holiday season. (Around £1000 and up)has_anyone_seen_750

Although it’s hard to get a hold of the work, Ramkrishna Kamble makes some beautiful, stain-glass style paintings of figures. The distinctive way the emotions are created keeps the paintings soft, effortless and stunning. (£600 and up)

The peaceful landscape painter Laurence Chandler captures the wildness of the weather and movement in our world. He uses a range of tools to create mesmerising paintings that will make an excellent holiday gift. (£90 and up)

  1. Throws

We especially love the Pure Lana Sheep Stripe throw in ivory. Made with 100% sheep’s fur, merino & llama, this is a soft, warm and elegant throw. Completely organic and luxuriously woven, this piece makes a perfect gift as the cold creeps in (Available at Amara, £716).

Another great gift is the Paisley Throw by Gant, which adds a subtle texture to any room with any décor. Made with merino wool and cotton, this stunning throw is exceptionally soft with chic tasselled edges making it a go-to Holiday gift (£85).

  1. Wallets and Purses

Another excellent gift for the holiday season is a purse or a wallet – they’re personal and thoughtful, and you certainly can’t have too many. We particularly like Ritu Kumar’s classic print wallet of embossed leather and embroidered work. Perfect for on the go with a zip and lots of pockets for storing cards. (₹10,850)

Ted Baker is a timeless British classic and the Freeyia purse adorned with shadowy flowers is a gorgeous gift for any girl (£69). We also love their Shakeel wallet for men. A strong, dark brown leather with blue accents make it a superb accessory for men of all ages. (£55).

  1. Events

To me nothing feels like a holiday more than dressing up and going with the family to see the Nutcracker in London. This year the English National Ballet is putting together a magical show with over 100 dancers. Be sure to get your tickets early to treat a loved one or the whole family to this timeless tale.

Of course another great place to go is Clothes Show Live held in Birmingham in December. Gorgeous designers take to the runway with hundreds of stalls waiting to give you bargains. Having gone since the tender age of 14, this event is a must-go for me every year, and makes an amazing gift for any fashion lover.

  1. Gourmet sweets

Bateel dates are a family favourite in our house. Organic and delicious these dates come filled as well as fresh to tantalise your taste buds. Our pick is the candied ginger filled sweet Wannan date – a brilliant alternative to a box of chocolates for Diwali and Christmas (AED 155 for 1000g).

Macarons have become the ultimate sweet delight and Laduree are famous for them. And aside from these wonderful little treats Laduree have delicious pastries and sweets that can be delivered to your door. We can’t get enough of the sugared almonds, which come in beautiful packaging and make a beautiful gift for any loved one (£9.40 for 55g in a blue, red or green cone).
